Our score
We write our scores down separately, before either of us says a word, and then we agree one.

Any restaurant that starts you out with champagne and oysters has our attention. Even the bread with leek oil was delicious, and a fennel amuse-bouche with goat yoghurt arrived before the menu proper began.

We chose the six-course menu, which was a master class in technique and restraint. The smoked fish could have benefited from pickled grapes. The sweetbread and pea purée ate rich and delicious.

We couldn't say no to adding a cheese course — five amazing cheeses, and we are particularly suckers for a goat blue.

They did lose some points on the dessert itself. It seems like all the restaurants are taking the easy way out and serving a Dame Blanche with strawberries soaked in magnolia sugar water.

The wine was an excellent Pinot Noir, which developed nicely throughout the meal. The restaurant was packed, we felt like we got the best table, and the service was impeccable.

We are really tough critics — we have eaten at the occasional restaurant. Delicious food that, with just a few tweaks, could be amazing. A great experience worth repeating.
